Dell Enterprise 600 GB 10K SAS drive

This Dell Enterprise hard drive delivers 600 GB of storage in a 2.5 inch form factor. It spins at 10000 RPM and connects through a SAS 12Gb/s interface with a 128 MB cache. The unit ships new with an R Series tray included.

Suited for 12 Gbps SAS arrays

This drive fits servers and storage arrays that accept 2.5 inch SAS devices running at 12 Gbps. Systems limited to slower SAS speeds or different physical interfaces cannot use this drive. Buyers needing larger capacities or different form factors should consider other models.

12 Gbps SAS interface decides compatibility

The SAS 12Gb/s interface is the single specification that determines whether this drive works in a given system. Controllers and backplanes must match this exact protocol and connector. Verify the host interface before purchase.

Questions about this item

What controller or backplane is required for the 12Gbps SAS interface on this ST600MM0088 drive?

A SAS controller or backplane that supports 12Gbps SAS signalling is needed; the drive uses a standard 2.5" SAS connector and includes the R Series caddy for Dell chassis.

Will the 12Gbps SAS link negotiate down to 6Gbps if my existing HBA only supports that speed?

Yes, the SAS interface is backward compatible and will negotiate to 6Gbps when connected to an older controller or backplane.

How can I verify the drive is running at its rated 10000RPM and 12Gbps link speed after installation?

Check the controller BIOS or OS utility for the negotiated link speed and rotational speed; SMART data will also report 10000RPM and a 12Gbps SAS link.
