SKU CH-VM45-D38YD

A 146 GB, 10,000 RPM SAS drive with 16 MB cache in a 2.5 inch form factor

  • 146GB capacity stores critical server data

  • SAS 3Gbps interface ensures reliable host connectivity
  • 16MB cache buffers frequent read/write operations
  • 5-inch form factor fits dense drive bays

Dell SAVVIO 10K.2 146GB SAS Drive

This 2.5 inch internal hard drive uses a SAS 3Gb/s interface and spins at 10000RPM with a 16MB buffer. It is a new component built for servers or workstations that require a 146GB capacity in a small form factor. The drive fits systems designed for 2.5 inch SAS bays.

Suits SAS bays needing 10K speed

The drive suits administrators upgrading or repairing Dell SAVVIO 10K.2 compatible systems where a 3Gb/s SAS link is specified. It is not for buyers who need a larger capacity than 146GB. It is also not for systems that only accept drives with a higher interface speed than 3Gb/s.

Interface is SAS 3Gb/s

The single specification that decides fit is the 2.5 inch SAS 3Gb/s interface. The host backplane or controller must support this exact connection type and signalling rate. Without a matching SAS 3Gb/s port the drive cannot be installed or used.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SAS drive in a 3.5" server bay?

Use a 2.5" to 3.5" drive carrier or tray; the SAS connector aligns with the backplane when the carrier screws into the bay, and the drive slides in until it clicks.

What maintenance or replacement will the ST9146802SS need over time?

The mechanical 10000RPM platters and bearings are the wear items; plan to replace the drive after its rated service life or if SMART reports reallocated sectors.

What limit appears first during sustained writes on this 3Gbps SAS drive?

The 3Gbps SAS interface caps sustained throughput before the 10000RPM media or 16MB cache can saturate the bus.
