Dell Savvio 300GB SAS Server Drive

This 2.5-inch SAS hard drive delivers 300GB of storage at 10000 RPM with a 16MB cache. It is built for Dell PowerEdge servers and carries the Savvio product line designation for enterprise workloads. The drive uses a SAS interface operating at 6Gb/s for host connectivity.

Enterprise Server Administrators

System administrators deploying or maintaining Dell PowerEdge servers will find this drive matches the required form factor and interface. Buyers needing a larger capacity than 300GB or a different physical size should look elsewhere. The drive is not intended for desktop PCs or consumer laptops.

SAS 6Gb/s Interface

The 6Gb/s SAS interface determines compatibility with the server backplane and controller. Verify that the target system supports this specific SAS speed and 2.5-inch form factor before purchase. The 10000 RPM spindle speed and 16MB cache are fixed characteristics of this model.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 10000 RPM SAS drive draw when it runs continuously?

The 2.5 inch form factor and 10000 RPM spindle typically keep power draw in the range expected for enterprise SAS drives of this capacity.

Which controller or backplane must I already have to connect this 6Gb/s SAS drive?

A SAS host bus adapter or RAID card with a 6Gb/s SAS port and a 2.5 inch drive bay or caddy is required.

Will this Savvio drive work in a PowerEdge server that currently uses 3.5 inch SAS drives?

It fits only 2.5 inch bays; a 3.5 inch chassis needs a drive carrier or adapter tray to accept the smaller form factor.
