  • Hot-swap support allows drive replacement without downtime

Dell 300 GB 10K SAS drive

This Dell ST9300603SS is a 2.5 inch enterprise hard drive built for servers and storage arrays that require hot-swap capability. It spins at 10,000 RPM and provides 300 GB of capacity through a SAS interface. The 16 MB cache helps sustain throughput in multi-drive environments.

Suits hot-swap bays needing 10K speed

IT teams replacing failed drives in existing SAS backplanes will find the correct form factor and spindle speed here. Buyers who need larger capacities or solid-state performance should look at other options. The drive is not designed for consumer desktop motherboards lacking SAS connectors.

SAS interface decides fit

Connection requires a SAS 2 backplane or RAID controller with compatible cabling; the drive will not function on ports that support only other interfaces. Verify the host system accepts 2.5 inch SAS devices before purchase.

Questions about this item

How often should the 10000RPM SAS drive be checked or replaced in a server?

Enterprise 10000RPM SAS drives are rated for continuous operation; monitor SMART data and replace when reallocated sectors or seek errors appear.

What performance limit appears first when the 300GB SAS 2 drive runs sustained workloads?

The 6Gbps SAS 2 interface caps sustained throughput before the 10000RPM platters or 16MB cache become the bottleneck.

How much heat and noise does the 2.5" 10000RPM SAS drive produce during all-day use?

Expect typical 2.5" enterprise drive acoustics and heat output for 10000RPM; ensure adequate airflow in the hot-swap bay.
