Server administrators replacing failed drives

The part matches a long list of PowerEdge models including the M600, M610, R310, R410, R510, R610, R710, R810, T310, T410 and T610 families among others. It is not suited for systems that require a different physical size, a higher capacity per spindle or an interface other than SAS.

10000 RPM rotational speed

The 10000 RPM spindle speed is the single specification that determines whether this drive meets the performance profile of the target workload. Buyers should verify that the host controller and backplane support SAS 6Gb/s before installation.

Questions about this item

Does the 2.5-inch SAS drive include the caddy needed for a PowerEdge R710 bay?

Yes, the drive ships with the PowerEdge server caddy and tray required to mount it in supported 2.5-inch bays.

What is the correct way to seat the SAS connector on the backplane, and what step is often missed?

Align the drive with the bay rails, slide it in until the SAS connector engages firmly, then secure the caddy latch; the missed step is forgetting to lock the latch after insertion.

How often should the 64 MB cache drive be checked for SMART errors in a 10 000 RPM server workload?

Schedule a SMART short self-test weekly and a long self-test monthly; replace the drive if reallocated sector count or seek error rate begins to rise.
