Dell Constellation SED 500GB SAS HDD

This Dell Constellation SED drive provides 500GB of storage in a 2.5 inch form factor. It uses a SAS 6Gb/s interface and spins at 7200RPM with a 16MB cache. The unit ships new and includes a caddy for compatible PowerEdge servers.

Capacity and headroom for server workloads

The 500GB capacity suits operating system volumes, application drives or moderate data sets in 2.5 inch bays. The 7200RPM spindle and 16MB buffer deliver steady throughput for typical read and write patterns. Larger databases or heavy logging workloads will exceed the available space and cache headroom.

SAS 6Gb/s interface decides compatibility

The drive requires a backplane or controller that supports 2.5 inch SAS 6Gb/s connections. It is validated for the listed PowerEdge M, R and T series servers including models such as R710, R720, T610 and M610. Systems without SAS infrastructure cannot use this drive.

Questions about this item

Will the ST9500431SS 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s drive fit and function in my older PowerEdge R610 server?

Yes, the R610 is on the compatible server list, so the 2.5" SAS interface and form factor will work correctly with that system's backplane.

How can I verify the ST9500431SS is running at 7200 RPM and the 6Gb/s link speed after installation?

Check the drive details in your RAID controller BIOS or iDRAC interface; both will report the negotiated 6Gb/s link speed and the 7200 RPM rotational speed.

Does the ST9500431SS shipment include the PowerEdge caddy/tray shown in the description, or must I buy it separately?

The listing states it includes the PowerEdge server caddy/tray, so no separate bracket purchase is required for installation in supported servers.
