Genuine Dell Vostro A860 Motherboard

This is an original Dell system board built for the Vostro A860 laptop. It provides the exact fit and connector layout required by that chassis. The board uses a PGA478 socket and ships without a processor or memory modules installed.

Sustained operation on integrated GM965 graphics

The GM965 chipset handles video output with 8 MB of dedicated graphics memory. Under continuous workloads the integrated graphics share system RAM through the DDR2 controller, so thermal output stays consistent with the laptop's original cooling design. No discrete GPU is present to add extra heat during long sessions.

PGA478 socket dictates CPU compatibility

Only processors that fit the PGA478 package can be installed, and the board will not accept Intel CPUs despite the socket type. Buyers needing a board that supports Intel processors should look elsewhere. The SATA interface for storage and DDR2 memory slots complete the platform.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the GM965 graphics chip generate during long sessions?

The integrated GM965 chip shares system memory and draws modest power, so thermal output stays low during extended use.

Which components must I already have to install the M712H motherboard?

You need a compatible PGA478 processor, DDR2 memory modules, and a SATA hard drive, as none are included with the board.

Will my existing SATA hard drive and DDR2 memory work with the Vostro A860 board?

Yes, the M712H provides a SATA interface for the drive and DDR2 slots for the memory, so both older parts remain usable.
