Dell WD22TB4 Thunderbolt Dock

The Dell WD22TB4 is a Thunderbolt docking station built for professionals who need to connect multiple displays and peripherals through a single cable. It delivers up to 130W of power to charge compatible laptops quickly. The compact unit measures 8.07 in. x 3.54 in. x 1.14 in. and weighs 650 g.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This dock suits users with Dell Latitude, Dell Precision or Lenovo ThinkPad laptops that support Thunderbolt and need up to four 4K displays plus Gigabit Ethernet. It is not for owners of laptops lacking Thunderbolt ports or buyers who require more than two Thunderbolt 4 downstream ports for daisy-chaining devices.

Deciding specification — 130W power delivery

The single figure that decides fit is the 130W power delivery rating. If your laptop charges at or below this level over Thunderbolt the dock will run it and peripherals simultaneously; if the laptop demands more power you must retain the original charger.

Questions about this item

Which Thunderbolt 4 ports on the WD22TB4 should I use for dual 4K monitors versus the HDMI 2.0 port?

Use the two Thunderbolt 4 ports or the two DisplayPort 1.4 connections for native 4K at 60 Hz; the single HDMI 2.0 port supports one additional 4K display.

What does the 130 W power delivery actually provide for a connected laptop?

It charges compatible Dell Latitude, Precision or Lenovo ThinkPad systems at up to 130 W and can bring a depleted battery to 80 % in 60 minutes via ExpressCharge.

How does the 40 GB/s Thunderbolt 4 bandwidth limit real-world peripheral speed?

The 40 GB/s ceiling is shared across all active ports, so simultaneous high-speed storage, dual 4K video and Gigabit Ethernet will divide that bandwidth.
