Dell 900 GB SAS 10K drive

This Dell WD9001BKHG-18D22V1 is a 900 GB internal hard drive with a SAS interface and a 10K rotation speed. The 2.5 inch form factor fits compatible drive bays in enterprise servers and storage arrays. It is supplied new in OEM or retail packaging that may vary.

Suits high-throughput enterprise workloads

The SAS interface and 10K spindle speed serve applications that demand consistent random I/O, such as database servers and virtualisation hosts. Buyers who need larger capacities or solid-state latency should evaluate alternative media. Systems without a SAS controller cannot use this drive.

900 GB capacity and SAS interface

The single specification that decides fit is the combination of 900 GB capacity and the SAS interface. Controllers and backplanes must support SAS at the required link rate for the drive to operate. Verify the interface and capacity match the system requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" form factor fit in my 3.5" drive bay?

The drive is a 2.5" unit. It needs a 2.5" bay or a 3.5-to-2.5 adapter bracket to mount securely in a standard desktop chassis.

What is the correct way to connect the SAS interface to my controller?

Plug the SAS data and power connectors firmly into the backplane or controller card. A common error is seating the connector partially, which causes link negotiation to fall back or fail.

When should I expect to replace a 10K RPM drive like this?

Enterprise 10K drives are rated for continuous operation. Plan replacement when SMART attributes show reallocated sectors or seek-error rates rising above threshold.
