Dell Cheetah 15K.5 146 GB SAS Drive

The Dell Cheetah 15K.5 is a 146 GB SAS hard drive spinning at 15000 RPM with a 16 MB cache. It uses a 3.5 inch form factor and supports hot-swap installation in compatible servers.

Suits PowerEdge servers needing 3Gb/s SAS storage

This drive fits PowerEdge servers that accept 3.5 inch SAS drives with hot-swap capability. It is not for systems that lack a SAS backplane or that require a different physical form factor.

15000 RPM rotational speed

The 15000 RPM spindle speed determines the drive's random-access latency and sustained throughput. Verify that the target server can accommodate this speed and the 3Gb/s SAS interface before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 3.5in SAS drive in a PowerEdge server hot-swap bay?

Slide the drive into an empty 3.5in hot-swap bay until the SAS connector seats firmly; the tray latch clicks when fully engaged.

What maintenance or replacement will the Cheetah 15K.5 need over time?

As a mechanical 15000 RPM drive, plan to replace it once SMART reallocated-sector counts rise or after the rated MTBF interval.

Which limit appears first during sustained writes on this 146GB SAS drive?

The 3Gb/s SAS interface caps sustained throughput before the 16MB cache or 15000 RPM platters saturate.
