M35 Cobalt 13-piece set
This DeWalt drill bit set contains 13 pieces made from M35 high-speed steel with 5 percent cobalt. The alloy resists heat, wear and chipping better than standard HSS 4241 bits. It targets mechanics and fabricators who regularly drill hardened metal, stainless steel or cast iron.
Upgrade from HSS 4241
The M35 cobalt blend outperforms HSS 4241 when cutting abrasive alloys because the added cobalt raises hot hardness. The jump is worth it when drill life drops sharply on stainless or when walking on hard surfaces ruins hole position. Standard HSS remains adequate for occasional soft-metal or wood work.
SAE range 1/16 to 1/4 inch
The kit covers 13 fractional sizes from 1/16 through 1/4 inch in jobber length, suited to common clearance and tapping holes. The 135-degree split point centres without a punch and clears chips quickly in these diameters. Larger holes or metric sizes fall outside this set.

Questions about this item
What shank size do the 1/16 to 1/4 inch bits have for my drill chuck?
Each bit in the set has a straight round shank that matches its SAE diameter, so the 1/16 inch bit fits a 1/16 inch chuck capacity and the 1/4 inch bit needs at least a 1/4 inch chuck.
Which step do users skip when starting a hole in hardened steel with the 135° split-point bits?
Many users skip a centre-punch mark; the 135° split point self-centres, but a light punch mark still prevents the bit from wandering on very hard surfaces.
When should I replace a bit from the M35 cobalt set?
Replace a bit when the cutting lips show visible rounding, the 135° point angle is no longer sharp, or the bit generates excessive heat and smoke in stainless steel or cast iron.
