Connects two serial devices to an Ethernet network at up to 230 Kbps serial speed
The Digi International 70002043 PortServer TS 2 is a device server designed to connect serial equipment to an Ethernet network. It provides two serial ports for linking devices such as point-of-sale terminals, building controllers or medical instruments to a 10 or 100 Mbps LAN. Management is handled through SNMP, Telnet or a web browser interface.
This unit suits engineers and integrators who need to add network access to existing RS-232 hardware without replacing the attached devices. It is not intended for applications that require more than two serial connections or for environments needing higher serial throughput than 230 Kbps.
The decisive specification is the presence of two RJ-45 ports operating at RS-232 signalling up to 230 Kbps. If your installation requires exactly two serial connections over copper Ethernet, this part matches that requirement; otherwise a different port count is needed.

It sets the maximum asynchronous serial throughput per port, so legacy RS-232 devices exchange data at up to 230 Kbps over the network link.
The single RJ-45 LAN port auto-negotiates to 10 or 100 Mbps, capping total aggregated traffic from both serial ports to the negotiated Ethernet rate.
It uses three RJ-45 sockets — one for 10/100 Ethernet and two for RS-232 serial — so you need matching patch cables and panel cut-outs for each jack.
