Marine VHF antenna for coastal boaters

This 16-foot white VHF antenna is built for coastal boaters who need reliable ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication. The two-piece design with a Rupp collar allows straightforward installation on a standard 1-inch by 14-thread antenna mount. Brass radiators and soldered connections provide durability in harsh saltwater environments.

Factory-supplied cable and connectors

The bundle includes 20 feet of RG-8X coaxial cable terminated with gold-plated connectors, so the installer can complete the run to the radio without sourcing separate parts. A ferrite choke is integrated to suppress common-mode noise on the feedline. The high-gloss finish resists UV yellowing and simplifies periodic cleaning.

10dB gain directs signal toward the horizon

The 10dB gain figure indicates a narrow vertical beamwidth that concentrates radiated energy low over the water, maximising range to distant vessels and shore stations. Boaters who operate primarily in sheltered inland waters or need wide vertical coverage for steep wave angles may find a lower-gain antenna more suitable.

Questions about this item

How often should the brass radiators and soldered connections be inspected for corrosion?

Inspect the brass radiators and soldered connections annually for signs of corrosion or salt buildup, especially after prolonged marine exposure.

What limits continuous transmission performance on the 532-VW-RS?

The ferrite choke manages RF feedback, but sustained high-power use may hit thermal limits in the brass radiators before the 10 dB gain degrades.

How much heat does the antenna generate during all-day operation?

The passive brass radiators and ferrite choke produce negligible heat; the 20 ft RG-8X cable with gold connectors stays cool under normal VHF duty cycles.
