M35 cobalt twist bit drills tough metals like stainless steel, Inconel and titanium at speeds up to 30% faster than M2 steel
This M35 cobalt twist drill bit is built for drilling tough, high tensile strength materials such as stainless steel, Inconel and titanium. Its 1/2 in reduced shank expands the capacity of a portable drill chuck so larger holes can be made without a stationary press. The bit meets National Aerospace standard 907 for consistent quality. It is sold individually for targeted jobs.
The 135 degree split point is self-centering and reduces thrust, helping the bit start cleanly and run cooler in hard alloys. M35 cobalt displays high red hardness, permitting speeds up to 30 percent greater than conventional M2 high speed steel. All drills share a 3 in flute length and 6 in overall length, minimising adjustment during tool changes.
The straight 1/2 in shank allows the 15/16 in bit to be used in common portable drills without a specialised holder. It handles a wide range of materials including aluminum, angle iron, copper, duct sheet metal, PVC, stainless steel, steel and wood. Self-feeding is not featured, so the operator controls feed pressure. The bit is new and covered by a 90 day period.

Open the chuck fully, insert the straight shank until it seats, then tighten securely; the step often missed is not tightening the chuck enough, which lets the bit slip under load.
The bit itself needs no maintenance beyond cleaning chips; replace it when the 135° split point dulls and no longer self-centers in stainless steel, Inconel or titanium.
Heat buildup at the cutting edges is the first limit; the M35 cobalt's high red hardness allows speeds up to 30% greater than M2 steel, but continuous use still demands coolant and peck cycles.
