29/64-inch HSS drill bit with reduced shank

This 29/64-inch high-speed steel drill bit features a reduced shank that fits a standard 3/8-inch chuck, allowing larger holes without a larger drill. It is suited for mechanics and fabricators who need to drill 0.4531-inch diameter holes in metal using a common corded or cordless drill.

Surface-treated flutes for chip evacuation

The silver and deming style bit has surface-treated flutes that help clear chips during drilling, reducing heat buildup and cutting resistance. A flute length of 4-3/16 inches and an overall length of 5-5/8 inches provide reach for deeper holes while the HSS construction resists wear in normal workshop use.

Questions about this item

How do I fit the 3/8in reduced shank into my drill chuck without it slipping?

Open the chuck fully, insert the 3/8in shank until it seats against the jaws, then tighten evenly by hand before giving a final firm turn with the chuck key; the reduced shank diameter is smaller than the 29/64in cutting portion so it must be centred, not cocked.

When will the HSS flutes need resharpening or replacement?

Resharpen when the cutting edges no longer produce clean chips in mild steel; the high-speed steel flutes can be reground several times before the 4-3/16in flute length becomes too short for the 5-5/8in overall length.
