Drill America 63/64in HSS Drill Bit

The Drill America 63/64in HSS KFD drill bit features a 1/2in reduced shank with three flats for secure chuck grip. Its heavy-duty split point starts on contact and reduces walking. High-speed steel construction suits demanding drilling tasks in metal and other hard materials.

Practical limits of the 1/2in shank interface

The 1/2in shank diameter restricts use to chucks that accept this size or larger. Reduced shank design allows the 63/64in cutting diameter to fit standard 1/2in capacity drill chucks. Three-flat shank prevents slippage under high torque but requires a compatible three-jaw chuck for full engagement. Not suited for quick-change hex systems or collets requiring cylindrical shanks.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 63/64" size for my 1/2" chuck?

The 63/64" drill bit has a 1/2" reduced shank that fits standard 1/2" chucks, so it is compatible with your drill.

What does the 3-flat shank do when the bit is in a real machine?

The three flats on the shank prevent the bit from spinning inside the chuck, giving you a secure grip under heavy torque.
