Questions about this item

How do you install the 9/16 inch HSS jobber drill bit in a drill chuck without damaging the shank?

Open the chuck wide enough to accept the straight shank fully, then tighten evenly on the smooth portion so the flutes start just beyond the jaws.

When does the black oxide coating on this 9/16 inch bit need replacement?

Replace the bit when the cutting edges no longer produce clean chips or the black oxide finish has worn away from the flutes, indicating loss of heat resistance.
