Drill America 47/64" Cobalt Drill Bit

The Drill America D/ACO47/64 is a 47/64 inch cobalt drill bit with a 1/2 inch reduced shank designed for Silver and Deming applications. Its cobalt steel construction and bronze oxide surface treatment on the flutes provide durability when drilling hard metals such as stainless steel. The bit features a 3 inch flute length and a 6 inch overall length with a decimal equivalent of .7344 inches.

Suited for heavy-duty metal drilling.

This bit suits machinists and maintenance technicians who need a large-diameter cobalt tool for tough alloys in a drill press or heavy-duty portable drill. Buyers who need a standard round shank for a three-jaw chuck without a reduced shank, or who primarily drill wood, plastics or masonry, should look at something else.

Questions about this item

How often will the cobalt steel flutes need resharpening when drilling hardened steel?

Resharpen when the bronze oxide coating wears off the cutting edges; the 3-inch flute length gives enough material for several regrinds before replacement.

At what point does the 1/2-inch reduced shank become the limiting factor in a heavy-duty drill press?

The 1/2-inch reduced shank fits standard chucks, but torque above the chuck's rating will slip the bit before the cobalt steel yields.
