Drill America Solid Carbide Bit
The Drill America DMODB B is a solid carbide drill bit built for pneumatic tooling in workshops that machine abrasive or heat-sensitive stock. It targets machinists and maintenance teams who need hole accuracy to hold through long runs in cast iron, high-silicon aluminium, copper alloys, bronze, hard rubber, plexiglass and similar non-ferrous materials.
Carbide limits in abrasive work
Carbide keeps its geometry longer than high-speed steel when cutting abrasive alloys, but the material is brittle and will chip if the spindle runs out of true or if feed pressure spikes. The bit is not suited for hand-held drilling, deep-hole work without peck cycles, or ferrous steels that demand cobalt or coated HSS tooling instead.
Collet fit and common issues
The bit shank fits standard pneumatic collets, so installation is a matter of cleaning the bore, seating the shank fully and tightening to the chuck maker's torque. Most failures come from running dry in high-temperature cuts, exceeding the recommended surface speed for the workpiece, or clamping on the flute length instead of the shank.
