M.2 NVMe and SATA SSD Enclosure

This enclosure accepts M.2 solid-state drives using either the NVMe or SATA protocol. It connects to a host computer through a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port. The tool-free design lets you install or swap a drive without screws or tools. A USB-C to USB-C cable is included in the package.

USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20Gbps interface limit

The USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connection provides a theoretical maximum bandwidth of 20Gbps. Actual throughput depends on the host controller, the cable quality and the drive's own performance ceiling. SATA-based M.2 drives will saturate well below this limit. NVMe drives may also be constrained by the bridge controller inside the enclosure.

M-key slot with B+M key support

The enclosure uses an M-key M.2 slot that also accommodates B+M keyed modules. This single specification decides whether your existing M.2 drive will fit and function. Drives with a B-key only connector are not supported. The product is not for builders who need a B-key only slot or who require an external power adapter for larger drives.

Questions about this item

Should I pick an NVMe or a SATA M.2 SSD for this enclosure?

Both NVMe and SATA M.2 SSDs fit the M-keyed slot, so choose the one that matches the drive you already own or plan to buy.

What does the 20Gbps rating mean when I copy files?

It is the peak USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 bandwidth; real-world throughput will be lower and limited by the SSD's own speed.

Does the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface cap the drive's performance?

The 20Gbps link is faster than most SATA SSDs and many NVMe drives, so the enclosure rarely bottlenecks the storage.
