A straight pencil grinder with a 1/8 in collet, 35,000 RPM free speed and 0.1 hp motor for precision grinding
The Dynabrade 51706 is a straight pencil grinder built for precision deburring, finishing and light material removal in tight spaces. It runs on compressed air at 90 psi and reaches a free speed of 35,000 RPM with a 0.1 hp motor. The 1/8 inch collet accepts small carbide burrs and mounted points. Technicians in automotive, aerospace and mould shops use it where larger die grinders cannot fit.
A 60 inch whip hose with 1/4 inch inner diameter ships with the tool, so the operator can connect to a 1/4 inch NPT female air inlet without extra fittings. The rear exhaust directs airflow away from the workpiece, reducing dust blow-back on finished surfaces. Average air consumption is 2.0 CFM during a 15 second burst and 8.0 CFM at full load, which helps size the compressor and filter-regulator correctly.
Connect the whip hose to a clean, lubricated 90 psi supply using the 1/4 inch NPT inlet; the twist throttle then controls speed. The aluminum housing weighs 0.7 lb and measures 5 1/4 inches overall, so it balances well in one hand. Ball bearings require regular oiling through the airline; dry air causes premature wear. The fixed 1/8 inch collet cannot accept 1/4 inch shank accessories, limiting the tool to smaller cutters.

The ball bearings are sealed for the life of the tool; no scheduled greasing is required, and replacement is only necessary if abnormal vibration or noise develops.
The 2.0 CFM average air consumption at 15-second intervals becomes the limiting factor, requiring a compressor that can sustain 8.0 CFM at full load to prevent speed drop.
Rear exhaust directs airflow away from the operator, reducing perceived noise, while the aluminum housing dissipates heat; the tool weighs 0.7 lb, minimising operator fatigue over long shifts.
