Arles Prime 50mm T1.4 PL Mount Lens

The DZOFILM Arles Prime 50mm T1.4 is a manual-focus cine lens built for ARRI PL-mount cameras. It covers large-format sensors including Vista Vision and features a 95mm front diameter with an 86mm filter thread. The lens weighs 5.89 lb and measures 12.76 by 6.89 by 6.89 inches.

Who this suits and who it does not

Cinematographers needing a fast T1.4 prime for low-light work and shallow depth of field on PL-mount bodies will benefit. Shooters who require autofocus, electronic aperture control, or a focal length wider or longer than 50mm should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification

The T1.4 maximum aperture combined with a 50.23-degree angle of view on full-frame and Vista Vision sensors determines whether this lens matches the exposure and field-of-view requirements of the production.

Questions about this item

What front diameter and filter thread does the 50mm T1.4 PL mount lens use for matte box or filter mounting?

The lens has a 95 mm front diameter and an 86 mm filter thread, matching the M86 filter system; the 14 mm size is not supported.

How do I mount the Arles Prime 50mm T1.4 on my ARRI PL camera and what step is often missed?

Align the PL mount pins with the camera’s locking collar, rotate until the locking ring clicks, then verify the flange focal distance is set for the sensor format in use.

When will the 86 mm filter thread or front element need service or replacement on this cine prime?

The 86 mm filter thread and front element only need replacement if the threads are cross-threaded or the glass is scratched; otherwise routine cleaning with approved optics fluid is sufficient.
