A bimetallic thermal overload unit rated 26.50–28.50 A, Trip Class 20, for NEMA Size 2 starters
The Eaton FH53 is a bimetallic thermal unit rated for a full-load current range of 26.50 to 28.50 amperes. It provides overload protection for NEMA Size 2 motor starters in industrial control panels. The transparent housing allows visual inspection of the trip mechanism. It is designed for use with Series A200 and B100 starters.
This unit operates on Trip Class 20 timing, meaning it will trip within a defined period under sustained overload conditions to protect motor windings. The bimetallic element responds to heat generated by excessive current. No separate accessories or software are included; the unit functions as a direct replacement component. Compatibility is defined by the starter model series.
Electrical technicians servicing compatible Eaton Cutler-Hammer starters can install this unit to restore overload protection. It suits panels where the motor full-load current falls within the 28.8 to 31.4 or 33.4 to 36.4 ampere ranges. Installers working with different NEMA sizes or non-compatible starter series must select an alternative thermal unit.

The FH53 is a bimetallic thermal unit rated for Trip Class 20 overload protection. It operates on a calibrated trip curve rather than a fixed service interval. Replacement is only required after a trip event or if the unit shows physical damage or calibration drift.
The FH53 covers a full-load current range of 28.8 to 31.4 A and 33.4 to 36.4 A. Sustained current above the upper end of the selected range will cause the bimetallic element to trip in accordance with its Trip Class 20 time-current characteristic.
The bimetallic element generates heat proportional to the square of the load current. At the top of its 33.4 to 36.4 A range the unit dissipates several watts, so panel ventilation must be sized to remove that heat and keep ambient temperature within the starter's rating.
