Compact AC600 USB adapter

The Edimax EW-7811UTC is a dual-band wireless adapter that plugs into any USB 2.0 port. It targets users upgrading older laptops or desktops to faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi without opening the case. The tiny form factor makes it practical for travel or permanent use in tight spaces.

150 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 433 Mbps at 5 GHz

On the 2.4 GHz band the link tops out at 150 Mbps, enough for web browsing and email. The 5 GHz band reaches 433 Mbps, which handles HD video streaming and large downloads more cleanly. Heavy multi-user traffic or very long range will push against these limits.

Works with Windows, Linux and Mac

Driver support covers Windows XP through 8, Linux and Mac OS X, so most legacy and current systems can use it immediately. A hardware WPS button simplifies router pairing without typing passwords. The internal antenna keeps the profile low, leaving adjacent USB ports free.

Questions about this item

Will the EW-7811UTC work on a laptop that only has USB 2.0 ports?

Yes, the adapter uses a USB 2.0 interface so it will operate on those ports, though the 433Mbps 5GHz rate is limited by the bus speed.

How can I confirm the adapter is connected at 5GHz after installation?

The Link/Activity LED shows traffic; check your OS network status to verify a 5GHz connection and a negotiated rate up to 433Mbps.

Does the package include a driver disc or must I download software?

The box contains the mini adapter, a quick installation guide and a CD with the setup wizard and drivers for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
