A dynamic cardioid microphone with variable-D design to minimise proximity effect, bundled with an in-line preamp and XLR cable
The Electro-Voice RE27N/D is a dynamic cardioid microphone built for broadcast, recording and sound reinforcement. It uses a neodymium magnet for higher output and lower noise. A hum-bucking coil reduces interference from lighting and ground issues. The bundle adds a Triton Audio Fethead in-line preamp and an XLR cable.
Variable-D design keeps bass response even at any speaking distance so close-mic technique does not boom. Internal blast filter stops plosives when lips touch the grille. Three switchable filters shape tone before the signal leaves the mic. Buyers who want a condenser’s airy top-end or need phantom power only should look elsewhere.
Neodymium structure delivers up to 6 dB more output than the RE20 while keeping the noise floor low. High SPL capability captures kick drums, brass or stacked amps without distortion. The single microphone covers one source; sessions needing multiple simultaneous channels will require additional mics.
Measured against everything we stock in Studio, Stage & Lavalier Microphones, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

The bundle includes a Triton Audio Fethead in-line preamp, so you can connect the RE27N/D directly to your interface without an additional external preamp.
The RE27N/D uses a neodymium magnet for up to 6 dB higher output than the RE20, and the Fethead adds clean gain, so levels will be stronger than an RE20 alone.
Move closer and farther while speaking; the bass response should stay even without the low-frequency boost typical of other cardioid microphones.
