Capture Card for Streaming & Recording

The Elgato 4K capture card accepts HDMI input up to 4K at 60FPS and passes through 2K at 144FPS via USB 3.0. It targets streamers, content creators and remote workers who need to bring console, camera or PC gameplay into OBS, Zoom or similar software on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or iPadOS. No drivers are required for plug-and-play operation.

Sustained Capture Performance

The device maintains its rated resolutions continuously when connected to a USB 3.0 or higher port. MJPEG encoding supports 4K at 60FPS, 2K at 144FPS and 1080P at 240FPS, while YUY2/NV12 handles 2K at 50FPS and 1080P at 120FPS. A USB 2.0 connection limits capture to 1080P, so a 3.0 port is essential for high-frame-rate workflows.

Build & Connectivity

The silver aluminium housing contains an HDMI input and a USB-C port with an included USB-A adapter for broad host compatibility. An LED indicator shows active HDMI signal status. The card draws power directly from the USB bus, eliminating the need for an external supply, and its compact external form factor suits both desktop and mobile recording setups.

Questions about this item

Does the elgato 4k capture card run hot or draw much power when streaming all day?

The card is bus-powered from a USB 3.0 port and has no external power requirement, so heat and draw stay low during extended sessions.

What must I already own to use the elgato 4k with my PC?

You need a USB 3.0 or higher port and capture software such as OBS; the box includes a USB-A to USB-C adapter for either port type.

Will the elgato 4k work alongside my older 1080p monitor and USB 2.0 hub?

On USB 2.0 the device is limited to 1080p capture, and it outputs 1080p at 60 fps in XRGB format, so it functions with legacy displays and hubs.
