1080p 60fps USB 3.0 capture card

The Elgato OCB5A0 captures HDMI video at up to 1080p 60fps and passes it to a computer over USB 3.0. It is aimed at streamers and creators who need a simple way to record or broadcast gameplay, camera feeds or other HDMI sources without installing drivers. The compact external unit works with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPadOS 17+.

USB 3.0 bandwidth and host port requirement

The device uses a USB 3.0 interface rated at up to 5Gbps, so the host must provide a genuine USB 3.0 port to reach full throughput. On USB 2.0 ports the available bandwidth drops sharply and 1080p 60fps capture cannot be sustained. The adapter includes both USB-A and USB-C connectors for physical compatibility, but the electrical standard remains USB 3.0.

4K input limited to 30fps

The HDMI input accepts signals up to 4K at 30fps, yet the capture engine outputs a maximum of 1080p at 60fps. Anyone who needs to record or stream at 4K 60fps will find this ceiling a hard limit. Buyers who only require 1080p 60fps delivery get the full benefit of the high-speed link.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the USB-A or USB-C connector on this Elgato OCB5A0 capture card?

The card includes a 2-in-1 USB-A and Type-C interface so you can use whichever port your laptop, desktop or console provides without an adapter.

What does 1080p 60fps output mean when I am streaming from a 4K 30fps source?

The HDMI input accepts 4K at 30fps and the device downscales to 1080p at 60fps for smooth capture in OBS or other software.

Does the USB 3.0 interface limit the capture quality in practice?

USB 3.0 provides up to 5Gbps bandwidth which is sufficient for 1080p 60fps MJPEG capture without compression bottlenecks.
