What this device does

The Emerson ET-7000 is a portable 7-inch TV and multimedia player built for viewers who want free over-the-air broadcasts and USB media playback while travelling. Its built-in ATSC tuner picks up digital HD channels without a subscription, and the external antenna helps improve reception in weak-signal areas.

The spec that decides fit

The 7-inch TFT LCD panel runs at 800 x 480 resolution, so buyers needing a higher pixel density or a larger display should look elsewhere. USB removable-media support covers MP3, JPEG, MPEG, XVID, AVC, MP4, H.264, HEVC (H.265), FLV, MKV and TXT files for music, photos and video on the move.

Power, heat and noise in use

A 3.7 V 1900 mAh rechargeable battery delivers about 1.5 hours of playback, while the included AC adapter and DC car cord provide continuous power for longer sessions. The solid-state design has no moving parts, so operation is silent and the unit stays cool during normal viewing.
