  • 3-wire alarm signal warns the system if the fan stops

120 mm 38 mm thick case fan with alarm

This 120 mm square frame measures 38 mm deep and runs on a 12 V supply drawing 0.52 A. The three-wire connection provides power, ground and a tachometer signal for speed monitoring. An integrated alarm function alerts the system when the rotor stops or slows below a safe threshold. It is suited to workstations and servers that require active airflow tracking.

Three-wire alarm signal enables fan-failure

The third wire carries a speed pulse that motherboard headers or fan controllers can interpret as an alarm condition. This allows the platform to log an event, trigger a warning LED or throttle components before temperatures rise. No additional sensors or software are required beyond a header that supports alarm input. Builders who need PWM speed control or a four-pin connector should select a different model.

Questions about this item

How often will the 3-wire alarm signal need checking or replacement?

The alarm signal wire is part of the fan assembly and has no separate service interval. If the fan fails the alarm stops reporting speed, so you replace the whole unit.

What limit appears first when the fan runs continuously at 12 V and 0.52 A?

Continuous operation at the rated 12 V and 0.52 A is within design limits; the first practical limit is bearing wear after extended use.
