What this drive does and who will use it

The FANTEC external optical drive reads and writes Blu-ray, HD DVD, DVD and CD media through a single USB 3.0 Type-C connection. It draws all required power from the host port, so no separate adapter is needed. The unit suits laptop and desktop owners who still need physical disc access for software installation, data archiving or media playback.

How the included cable

A detachable USB 3.0 Type-C cable is built in, providing up to 5 Gbps transfer speed while remaining compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.0 ports. The drive appears automatically on Windows XP through 10, Linux and macOS without driver installation. A mechanical forced-ejection hole lets you recover a stuck disc if the software eject fails.

What to verify on your system before ordering

Confirm the host has an available USB-A or USB-C port that can supply standard bus power. The drive does not support Chromebook, iPad, Android tablets, smart TVs or vehicle infotainment systems. Desktop users should connect directly to a motherboard header rather than a front-panel hub for reliable operation.

Questions about this item

How long does the tray mechanism on this FANTEC Blu-ray player typically last before it needs replacement?

The drive includes a forced ejection hole so a stuck disc can be removed manually if the tray mechanism fails.

What speed ceiling will I hit first when burning Blu-ray discs continuously with the USB 3.0 Type-C connection?

The interface caps at 5 Gbps, so sustained write speeds cannot exceed that bandwidth limit.

How much heat and noise does the drive produce when it runs all day on a laptop USB port?

It draws power only from the USB port with no external adapter, so heat and noise stay low during extended use.
