Direct replacement for shaded-pole fan motors

The FASCO D186 is a single-phase shaded-pole motor rated at 1/20 HP and 1550 RPM. It delivers 40 W output at 460 V AC and draws .5 A at full load. The 3.3 frame uses a closed-base steel housing with stud mounting and clockwise shaft rotation when viewed from the shaft end.

Verify voltage and speed match the original unit

Confirm the existing motor runs on 460 V AC at 60 Hz because the motor is not usable at 208 V or 200 V. Check that the nameplate RPM is 1550 and that the shaft rotates CWSE. Ensure the stud mounting pattern and 3.3 frame dimensions fit the current bracket.

Thermal protection resets automatically under

The motor carries Class B insulation rated for a maximum ambient temperature of 40 °C with a 1.0 service factor. Auto thermal protection opens the circuit if windings overheat and closes again once temperatures drop. Open air-over enclosure relies on the fan airflow for cooling during sustained operation.

Questions about this item

Does the D186 motor come with a capacitor or mounting hardware, or do I need to buy those separately?

The motor is supplied as a single unit with a stud mounting design; capacitors, brackets or other hardware are not included and must be sourced separately.

The spec lists 1/20 hp and 40 W output — which figure should I match when replacing my old motor?

Match the 1/20 hp nameplate rating and the 460 V supply; the 40 W output is the mechanical power at the shaft under those conditions.

What does the 1550 rpm rating mean once the motor is installed in my HVAC unit?

At 460 V and 60 Hz the shaft will turn at approximately 1550 rpm under full load, delivering the rated 1/20 hp with auto thermal protection.
