5.25" SATA Enclosure for Optical Drives

The Fellowes 5250DVD-1 enclosure houses a 5.25" Blu-ray, CD or DVD drive with a SATA interface. It connects to a host via USB 3.0 Type-A or Type-C for plug-and-play operation. An aluminium-alloy shell reduces heat, noise and vibration. The drive bay accepts units up to 171 mm deep and supports hot-swapping.

Suits USB 3.0 SATA optical drives; not for IDE

Builders adding a SATA optical drive to a system with USB 3.0 ports will find this enclosure a direct fit. It requires no drivers and works with drives that lack side screw holes. Users with IDE optical drives or machines that only offer USB 2.0 cannot use the SATA interface or reach the 5 Gbps transfer rate.

Single specification: SATA protocol only

The enclosure accepts SATA optical drives exclusively and does not support the IDE protocol. This single interface requirement decides whether an existing drive can be installed.
