The Fernco 1056 flexible coupling joins a 3-inch pipe to a 2-inch pipe in sewer, drain, water and vent systems. Its elastomeric PVC body resists chemicals, ultraviolet rays, fungus growth and normal sewer gases. Stainless steel clamps provide corrosion-resistant, rust-proof sealing. The coupling meets ASTM D5926 requirements for reliable underground or above-ground installations.

Installation requirements and space savings

The coupling fits directly between pipes with inside diameters of 3.45 inches and 2.45 inches, requiring no special tools beyond a screwdriver or nut driver for the clamps. Its 3.95-inch overall length keeps the joint compact in tight trenches or wall cavities. Rated for 4.3 PSI maximum working pressure and 140 °F maximum operating temperature, it handles typical residential gravity-flow and low-pressure applications without additional support fittings.

Replaces rigid transition fittings

This coupling replaces rigid clay-to-cast-iron or clay-to-plastic transition fittings that cannot accommodate ground movement or minor misalignment. The flexible elastomeric body absorbs vibration and slight pipe settlement while maintaining a watertight seal. The jump is worth it when joining dissimilar pipe materials or sizes in retrofit repairs where rigid couplings would require exact alignment or additional adapter pieces.
