M.2 to OCuLink adapter
The Fervit 2280 PCI-E 4.0 M.2 M-Key to Oculink SFF-8612 SFF-8611 Vertical Host Adapter adds an OCuLink port to a 2280 M-Key slot. It lets you attach an NVME U.2 SSD or an eGPU graphics card through an optional cable. The board carries PCI Express 4.0 signals using the NVME protocol. It is built for builders who need external high-speed storage or graphics expansion.
Critical connection requirement
Your system must provide a 67 pin M.2 Key M male slot wired for PCI Express 4.0. The adapter simply passes those lanes to the SFF-8612 female connector. If the slot is Key B, Key E or limited to an older generation, the link will not work. No active components are on the board, so the host controller defines every limit.
Passive thermals and power
The adapter has no fan, heatsink or active circuitry, so it adds no audible noise. Power draw is limited to the trace losses of the PCI Express 4.0 link itself. Thermals depend entirely on the attached drive or eGPU enclosure and the airflow inside your chassis.

Questions about this item
What does the PCI-E 4.0 rating mean once the adapter is installed in a real machine?
The adapter passes PCI Express 4.0 signals through the NVMe protocol, so a connected NVMe SSD or eGPU can run at Gen 4 speeds if the host slot and the cable both support Gen 4.
Which interface standard does the OCuLink connector use, and what does it cap in practice?
The vertical SFF-8612 female port follows the OCuLink SFF-8611 specification, carrying four PCIe 4.0 lanes; the practical limit is the host slot speed and the cable quality, not the connector itself.
What does the adapter physically need to fit and mount in a system?
It plugs into a 2280 M-Key M.2 slot using its 67-pin male edge connector and stands vertically, so the board needs clearance above the slot for the OCuLink cable to exit cleanly.
