Front-panel USB 3.1 Type-E adapter pair
This two-piece kit provides a male-to-female Type-E extension for internal front-panel USB 3.1 headers. One adapter angles upward and the other downward, letting builders route the cable around tight motherboard layouts. Each connector is rated for 10 Gbps throughput and uses the USB 3.1 pinout that extends the earlier 3.0 design.
Check your motherboard header before ordering
Verify that your board exposes a USB 3.1 Type-E front-panel header, not the older USB 3.0 19-pin connector. The adapters are keyed for the Type-E pin arrangement and will not seat in a 3.0 header. Ensure enough clearance around the header for the angled bodies to sit flat without fouling nearby components or cables.
Replaces a short or missing front-panel lead
Use these extensions when a chassis front-panel USB-C lead is too short to reach the motherboard header or when a case lacks a Type-E cable entirely. The backward-compatible pinout means existing USB 3.0 front-panel devices will still function at 3.0 speeds. The upgrade is worthwhile only if your motherboard and case both support USB 3.1 Type-E connectivity.

Questions about this item
What connectors are included in the two-piece set?
The set contains one up-angled and one down-angled adapter, each with a Type-E male header on one end and a Type-E female socket on the other.
Which adapter orientation should I choose for my motherboard header?
Choose the up-angled version if the header points toward the top of the case, or the down-angled version if it points toward the bottom, to avoid cable strain.
Will the 10 Gbps rating work with a USB 3.0 front-panel port?
Yes, the Type-E interface uses the USB 3.0 pin set plus additional contacts, so it is backward compatible with USB 3.0 headers while supporting 10 Gbps on USB 3.1 devices.
