100G QSFP28 BiDi transceiver

The Finisar AFBR-89BDDZ is a 100G QSFP28 BiDi optical transceiver designed for high-density data center links. It uses bidirectional technology over multimode fiber to deliver 100 Gbps throughput while halving the strand count required for a standard duplex connection. Network engineers deploy it to consolidate cabling in leaf-spine architectures without sacrificing bandwidth.

LC duplex multimode reach

A single LC duplex connector carries both transmit and receive wavelengths, so existing duplex patch panels support the link without ribbon-fiber upgrades. The module handles typical intra-data-center distances on OM3 or OM4 multimode fiber, but it cannot span the longer reaches that single-mode BiDi optics or parallel QSFP28 SR4 transceivers cover. Budget the fiber plant accordingly.

QSFP28 form factor constraint

The QSFP28 footprint locks this transceiver into switches and routers that expose native QSFP28 cages and support 100G BiDi signaling. Ports limited to SFP28, QSFP+, or non-BiDi 100G modes will not recognise the module, and passive copper breakout cables cannot substitute for the optical BiDi link.
