Orchid Mantis Hand Puppet

The Folkmanis Orchid Mantis Hand Puppet is a 18 inch plush insect with pink and white colouring that mimics an orchid flower. Five finger operation moves the long legs and alien-like eyes for realistic animation. It suits stage, classroom, daycare and pretend play for children and adults.

Thermals noise and power

As a soft hand puppet it produces no heat, no fan noise and draws no electrical power during normal use. The high-quality plush materials stay cool against the hand and require only occasional surface cleaning. No batteries or external supply are needed.

Five finger articulation

The single specification that decides fit is the five finger operation that animates legs and eyes simultaneously. Buyers who need a simpler one-hand mouth movement or a smaller finger puppet will not get the full range of motion this design provides.

Questions about this item

How do I get my hand into the Orchid Mantis puppet so all five fingers move the legs?

Slide your hand up through the body cavity until each finger sits in a separate leg pocket; the thumb and pinky control the outer legs while the three middle fingers drive the inner ones.

What part of the puppet will need cleaning first after regular play?

The pink and white plush on the legs and body shows dust and finger oils fastest; spot-clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then air-dry.

At 18 inches long, will the mantis flop over during a long stage scene?

The 13-inch height gives a low centre of gravity, so the puppet stays upright on a table or draped over your forearm without tipping.
