Puppet Design & Operation

The Folkmanis Standing Tortoise is a 12 inch hand puppet crafted from high-quality plush materials with realistic detailing. Your hand fits comfortably inside to animate the mouth and forelegs for interactive movement. It is built for easy care and long-lasting play across many settings.

Ideal Uses & Limitations

This puppet suits educators, storytellers, performers and collectors who want a lifelike tortoise for stage, classroom, daycare or pretend play. It also works well as a gift or party prop. Buyers needing a larger figure, a different animal species or a non-hand-operated puppet should consider other options.

Play & Storage Integration

The tortoise measures 12 x 8 x 11 inches (LxWxH) and slips over the hand without extra straps or mechanisms. Its self-contained design requires no accessories, batteries or assembly, freeing up space in toy bins, prop boxes or display shelves. The durable construction handles frequent handling in group or solo play.

Questions about this item

What hand size fits inside the 12-inch tortoise puppet?

The puppet slips comfortably over an average adult hand; the interior cavity matches the 12 x 8 x 11 inch exterior so fingers reach the mouth and both forelegs.

Can the tortoise puppet share a scene with smaller Folkmanis finger puppets?

Yes — at twelve inches tall it towers over standard finger puppets, making it a natural lead character while the smaller figures play supporting roles.

How do I check the mouth and forelegs move correctly after first use?

Insert your hand, open and close your fingers to work the mouth, then flex your thumb and pinky to lift each foreleg; all three should move smoothly.
