  • Durable anodised black aluminium construction withstands frequent use in varied conditions

  • Snug fit eliminates light leaks and maintains alignment for sharp macro images
  • Manual focus and exposure control required as adapter lacks electrical contacts

What this adapter does

The Fotodiox 55mm Macro Reverse Mount Adapter Ring lets you mount a lens with a 55mm filter thread in reverse on a Sony A-Mount or Minolta AF SLR body, turning it into a high-magnification macro tool. It is built from anodised aluminium and has precision threads for a secure, light-tight connection. The ring contains no electrical contacts, so all focus and exposure control becomes manual. It suits photographers who want extreme close-up capability without buying a dedicated macro lens.

Compatibility check before ordering

Confirm that the lens you intend to reverse has a 55mm filter thread, because the adapter only accepts that thread size. Your camera must be a Sony Alpha A-Mount or Minolta AF mount SLR body, either digital or film. Since the adapter has no electrical contacts, you must be prepared to shoot in manual focus with manual exposure or aperture priority mode. Buyers who want to reverse lenses with other thread sizes or who need electronic aperture control should not purchase this model.

Thermals noise and power

The adapter is a passive metal ring with no electronics, so it generates no heat, draws no power and produces no noise in normal use. It simply provides a mechanical link between lens and camera. No thermal management or power-supply considerations apply.

Questions about this item

Does the 55 mm reverse ring ship with any lens caps or step-up rings, or must I buy those separately?

The adapter ring is the only item supplied; lens caps and step-up rings are not included and must be purchased separately.

My lens has a 62 mm filter thread — can I still use this 55 mm adapter, or do I need a different version?

The ring only accepts a 55 mm filter thread; a 62 mm lens requires a 55-to-62 mm step-up ring to fit this adapter.

What happens to aperture control and autofocus when the lens is reversed on my Sony A-Mount body with this ring?

The ring has no electrical contacts, so autofocus is disabled and the aperture must be controlled manually on the lens or stopped down before reversing.
