FREEWELL 82mm Hybrid Variable ND/CPL Filter 3-7 Stop

Threaded 82 mm Hybrid Filter

The Freewell 82mm Hybrid Variable ND/CPL Filter combines variable neutral density and circular polarisation in a single threaded mount. It provides 3 to 7 stops of light reduction for precise exposure control in bright conditions. The integrated CPL cuts reflections from water, glass and shiny surfaces while boosting colour saturation. This design suits photographers and filmmakers who want to carry fewer filters on location.

Replaces Separate ND and CPL Filters

Instead of stacking a variable ND and a polariser, this hybrid unit handles both tasks, reducing vignetting risk and speeding up lens changes. The jump is worth it when you regularly shoot video or long exposures in changing light and need to adjust density and polarisation quickly. It is not for buyers who only need fixed-stop NDs or who prefer a dedicated CPL for maximum polarisation efficiency.

Variable ND Range Practical Limits

The 3 to 7 stop range covers moderately bright to extremely bright scenes but cannot replace a darker fixed ND for very long daylight exposures. At the strongest settings some cross-polarisation artefacts may appear on ultra-wide lenses. The threaded 82 mm mount fits only lenses with that exact filter thread; it does not work with smaller or larger diameters without step rings.
