High-Magnification Porro Prism Binoculars

The Fujinon 10x70 FMT-SX Polaris delivers 10x magnification through 70mm objective lenses, gathering almost twice the light of 50mm models. Electron Beam Coating on every lens and prism surface achieves 95% light transmission for bright images in low light. A flat field of view keeps edges sharp across the full 5.0 degree angle.

Practical Limits of 10x70 Optics

Hand-held use at 10x magnification amplifies natural shake, so a tripod or stable rest is often needed for steady viewing. The 70mm aperture adds weight and bulk compared to compact binoculars, affecting portability on long hikes. Exit pupil measures 7mm, matching dark-adapted eyes but offering no advantage in bright daylight.

Setup Checks Before Ordering

Verify that your interpupillary distance falls within the 56mm to 74mm adjustment range for a merged image. Eyeglass wearers should confirm the 23mm eye relief provides a full field of view with their frames. Ensure you can accommodate the larger physical size and weight of 70mm Porro prism binoculars in your pack or case.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 10x70 model or a 10x50 version for astronomy?

The 70mm objective lenses gather almost twice the light of 50mm models, and the 95% light transmission with EBC coating makes this 10x70 far superior for low-light and night viewing.

What does the 10x magnification actually deliver in the field?

10x magnification brings distant subjects ten times closer, while the 5.0° angle of view gives a wide 208-foot field at 1000 yards for tracking moving objects across large areas.

Are these binoculars fully waterproof and fog-proof for all weather?

Yes, they are 100% waterproof and nitrogen-purged to prevent internal fogging, so they perform reliably in rain, humidity, and temperature swings without moisture damage.
