Handheld GPS for multi-dog tracking

The Garmin Alpha 300i handheld pairs with the included TT25 collars to monitor up to 20 dogs at once. A 3.5-inch touchscreen and six-button layout give quick access to maps and training controls. Inreach satellite messaging lets you send texts and share locations beyond mobile coverage. The system stores profiles for 250 dogs so you can swap collars in the field.

Thermal behaviour and battery life

Each TT25 collar runs up to 55 hours on a user-replaceable battery before needing a swap. The handheld’s display remains readable in direct sunlight without active cooling. VHF transmissions update position data every 2.5 seconds across a 9-mile range. Channel-view scanning helps you pick a clear frequency to avoid local interference.

Bundled collars and software impact

Two TT25 collars arrive ready to pair, each using a top-mounted GPS and Galileo receiver for precise fixes. The Alpha platform groups dogs and people into hunt parties for organised tracking. Real-time alerts flag when a dog is treed or on point. Downloaded satellite imagery and a barometric altimeter add terrain context to every outing.

Questions about this item

How do I pair the Alpha 300i handheld with the two TT25 collars, and what step do people often miss?

Power on the handheld and each TT25 collar, then use the Channel View feature to select a clear channel ID for every collar so signals do not overlap with other nearby devices.

What maintenance will the TT25 collars need over time?

Each collar has a user-replaceable battery rated for up to 55 hours per charge; swap it when runtime drops.

What is the first limit I will hit during a long hunt with all 20 dogs tracked?

The handheld stores profiles for 250 dogs but can actively monitor only 20 at once, so that dog-count ceiling appears before battery or range limits.
