Rugged 40 mm GPS smartwatch

The Garmin Instinct E 40 mm is a rugged GPS smartwatch built for outdoor athletes who need dependable navigation and health data in a compact form. It runs Garmin OS, offers multi-GNSS support plus a 3-axis compass and barometric altimeter, and delivers up to 14 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. The 1.2-inch display sits in a 10 ATM water-rated case tested to MIL-STD-810 for thermal and shock resistance.

Works with a compatible smartphone

Pair the watch with a compatible smartphone over Bluetooth to receive smart notifications and access the Connect IQ Store for additional apps and watch faces. The 128 MB of onboard memory stores activity data between syncs, while the lithium-ion cell rated at 50 mAh keeps the device running for up to 16 days in certain modes. No separate charging dock is required beyond the supplied cable.

Health monitoring and Pulse Ox

Wrist-based heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring and Pulse Ox sensors give a close estimation of key wellness metrics, though Pulse Ox is not available in all countries and the device is not a medical instrument. Preloaded activity profiles and custom tracking cover running, cycling, swimming and other multisport pursuits. The 40 mm band width fits the included strap and standard 40 mm replacements.

Questions about this item

How many days of battery life can I expect before the watch needs charging again?

Up to 14 days in smartwatch mode, extending to 16 days under typical use with GPS disabled.

Does the case get hot or the battery drain quickly when GPS runs continuously all day?

The 50 mAh lithium-ion cell powers built-in GPS; sustained satellite tracking will reduce the 14-day estimate but the polymer case stays cool to the touch.

What phone operating system and companion app are required to receive notifications and sync activities?

A compatible smartphone running Garmin Connect via Bluetooth is needed for smart notifications, Connect IQ downloads and automatic data uploads.
