Product identity

The GCROWN USB Wi-Fi Adapter is a compact wireless network dongle that adds 2.4 GHz connectivity to desktops and laptops. It supports Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7 and XP, plus Mac OS 10.6 to 10.11, and includes a detachable 6 dBi high-gain antenna for extended reach.

Deciding specification

The adapter delivers a maximum data rate of 150 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, which determines whether it matches the speed tier of your internet plan or local network. Driver installation requires a download from the manufacturer support site before the device becomes operational.

Suitability

This suits users who need a simple, plug-in wireless upgrade for older PCs or Macs and who can accept 2.4 GHz-only operation with 150 Mbps throughput. Buyers who want dual-band 5 GHz support, higher link speeds, or built-in Bluetooth should look at other options.

Questions about this item

What does the 150 Mbps rate mean for actual throughput on my PC?

The 150 Mbps figure is the maximum wireless link speed at 2.4 GHz; real-world throughput will be lower due to overhead, interference and distance from the router.

Which USB standard does the adapter use and what speed does that limit me to?

The adapter plugs into a standard USB port; the wireless link tops out at 150 Mbps, so the USB connection does not bottleneck the 2.4 GHz signal.

How much space does the 6 dBi antenna need for mounting?

The external high-gain antenna stands upright and can rotate, so allow a few centimetres of vertical clearance behind the USB port for best signal.
