250 W ED28 Metal Halide Light Kit
The GE Lighting MVR250/U/PA is a 250-watt metal halide HID lamp with an ED28 glass envelope and mogul screw base. It produces 22,400 lumens at a 3900 K colour temperature with a CRI of 62. The lamp is rated for 15,000 hours of universal burning in enclosed fixtures.
Replaces older probe-start metal halide lamps
This kit upgrades installations still running legacy probe-start metal halide systems that share the same M138/M153 ANSI code and mogul base. The jump is worth it when the existing ballast supports pulse-start operation and the fixture is rated for enclosed use. It does not suit open fixtures or ballasts that lack pulse-start ignition.
Mogul base limits fixture choice
The E39 mogul screw base restricts use to industrial high-bay or low-bay luminaires designed for ED28 envelopes. The 8 1/4 inch overall length and 3 1/2 inch diameter require adequate housing clearance. The lamp is not dimmable and is shatter-resistant, so it cannot be used in fixtures demanding dimming control or open-rated lamps.

Questions about this item
Will the mogul screw (E39) base fit my existing fixture socket?
Yes — the bulb uses a standard mogul screw (E39) base that matches any socket made for that base type.
What ballast do I need to install this 250 W metal halide lamp?
You must use a ballast rated for ANSI code M138 or M153; the lamp is ballast-dependent and will not start without the correct one.
When should I plan to replace this lamp based on its rated life?
The rated life is 15,000 hours; replace it once output drops noticeably or after that many operating hours.
