Refrigerator Defrost Heater Assembly

The GE WR51X10055 defrost heater and bracket assembly prevents frost accumulation on cooling coils. The heater activates to melt ice build-up and maintain proper refrigerator operation. Suitable for appliance repair technicians and homeowners replacing a failed defrost component.

Practical Limits of the Defrost Cycle

The heater operates only during the defrost cycle and does not run continuously. It addresses frost on the evaporator coils but cannot correct cooling issues caused by a faulty thermostat, sealed-system leak or compressor failure. Buyers needing a complete sealed-system repair will require additional parts and professional service.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the WR51X10055 assembly or a different part number for my GE refrigerator?

The WR51X10055 is the specific GE part number for this defrost heater and bracket assembly; verify your appliance's service manual to confirm this exact number matches your model.

What does the defrost heater actually do once installed in the fridge?

The heater warms up to melt frost and ice accumulating on the cooling coils, preventing build-up that would block airflow and reduce cooling efficiency.
