Whole-home mesh router

The Google Nest WiFi Mesh Router 2nd Gen is a wireless router that plugs into an internet provider modem or gateway to create a scalable mesh network. It is designed for households that want fast, reliable Wi-Fi coverage across multiple rooms without dead zones.

Coverage limits depend on layout

Each router provides up to 2200 square feet of coverage, while a system can blanket up to 4400 square feet. Home size, materials, and layout affect how the signal travels, so larger homes or those with thick walls and long, narrow layouts may need extra Wi-Fi points for full coverage.

AC2200 4x4 wireless standard

The router uses a 4x4 AC2200 wireless standard to deliver its rated throughput. Signal strength and speed will depend on the internet provider, so buyers needing guaranteed bandwidth beyond the provider link should verify their service tier first.

Questions about this item

One router covers 2200 sq ft while the system reaches 4400 sq ft — which should I pick?

Choose one router for homes up to 2200 sq ft; add a second unit to extend coverage toward 4400 sq ft if your layout has thick walls or long corridors.

The box says AC2200 — what speed will I actually see on my laptop?

AC2200 is the combined theoretical maximum across all bands; real-world throughput depends on your broadband plan, device capabilities, and wall materials.

What backhaul link does the mesh use and what does it limit?

Units connect wirelessly on a dedicated 4×4 radio; the backhaul caps total mesh throughput to the AC2200 aggregate rating.
