What the cable connects

This 40ft active USB A to B cable links a USB Type B printer, scanner, fax machine, digital piano or MIDI keyboard to a laptop or desktop with a standard Type A port. The active design maintains reliable data transfer over the full length where a passive cable would drop signal. It is built for home offices, studios or classrooms that need reach across a room without moving the host computer. Buyers who need a shorter run or a USB Type C connection will not be served by this product.

How it fits a setup

The cable plugs directly into the peripheral and the host with no driver installation required. Gold-plated connectors and multiple shielding layers resist interference from nearby power cables or lighting ballasts. A nylon braid jacket prevents tangles when the cable is routed behind desks or along skirting boards. It frees the workstation from sitting beside the printer and eliminates the need for a USB hub or extender box. Builders who require USB 3.0 Type B speeds or a locking connector should look elsewhere.

Behaviour under sustained load

The link runs at USB 2.0 High Speed, delivering up to 480 Mbps for long print jobs, multi-page scans or continuous MIDI streams without the throughput collapse seen on passive cables at this distance. Backwards compliance with USB 1.1 and 1.0 ensures older peripherals still enumerate correctly. The reinforced joint points and braided sheath keep the electrical path stable when the cable is repeatedly coiled and uncoiled for temporary setups. Users who expect sustained 5 Gbps throughput will not get it from this cable.

Questions about this item

Does the 40ft length of this active USB 2.0 cable maintain the full 480 Mbps speed under sustained use?

The active design is built to sustain USB 2.0 signalling at 480 Mbps across the full 40ft run, avoiding the signal loss that limits passive cables to shorter distances.

Will the cable or its connectors become warm during all-day printing or scanning sessions?

USB 2.0 active cables draw very little power and the gold-plated connectors run cool, so there is no noticeable heat build-up even during continuous daily use.

My printer has a USB Type B port — does this cable plug straight in without any adapter?

Yes, the cable has a standard USB Type A male plug for the computer and a USB Type B male plug that fits the printer's port directly, with no adapter needed.
