Eight-port 6Gb/s SATA and SAS RAID controller
This card adds eight internal SATA and SAS ports through two SFF-8087 connectors using a PCIe 2.0 x8 slot. It provides hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with 512MB of 800MHz DDRII cache and an optional battery backup module. The LSI 2108 ROC handles 6Gb/s links for demanding storage workloads.
Suits servers needing hardware RAID on internal
Builders who require external ports or a newer PCIe generation should look elsewhere. Systems limited to PCIe 1.0 slots cannot use the full bandwidth of this x8 interface. Workloads that need more than eight internal ports will need additional controllers.
512MB DDRII cache with optional battery backup
The onboard 800MHz cache stores write data during RAID operations and the optional battery module protects that data if power is lost. Without the battery, cached writes are vulnerable during an outage. The cache size is fixed and cannot be expanded on this card.

Questions about this item
How much heat does the 9261-8i with 512MB cache produce when running continuously?
The D2616-A12 SAS 2108 RAID-on-Chip operates on PCI Express 2.0 x8 without a built-in fan, so case airflow handles the heat.
Which cables and drives must I already have to use the two SFF-8087 connectors?
You need Mini-SAS SFF-8087 to SATA or SAS breakout cables plus 3 Gb/s or 6 Gb/s SATA/SAS drives for the eight internal ports.
Will the controller work in an older PCIe 1.0 or 2.0 slot and still support RAID 5 and RAID 6?
Yes, the card fits PCIe 2.0 x8 and is backward compatible; RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 remain fully supported.
