Steady transfer rates for small files

Sequential reads reach up to 18 MB/s while writes peak at 8 MB/s over the USB 2.0 interface. These speeds are consistent for moving documents and similar lightweight data rather than large media batches.

Check port availability and OS support

Verify that your machines provide enough Type A ports for the number of drives you plan to use simultaneously. The drives are listed as compatible with Windows Vista, XP and Mac systems.

Questions about this item

Does the USB 2.0 interface on the Halasal HGM8GB draw noticeable power when left plugged in all day?

As a USB 2.0 flash drive it draws only the standard bus power, so heat and power draw stay minimal even during continuous use.

What host port must my computer provide for these Type A drives to work?

You need a standard USB Type A port — the same rectangular port found on virtually every desktop, laptop or USB hub made in the last two decades.

Will the 18 MB/s read speed feel slow on a Windows Vista machine I still use?

The drive is listed as compatible with Windows Vista, and its 18 MB/s read speed matches the USB 2.0 bus limit, so performance will be consistent with other USB 2.0 storage on that system.
